Clothing pantry serves Hamilton students comment (1) </p> By Hannah Poturalski</p> Staff Writer </p> HAMILTON — </p> minzucloth A Hamilton nonprofit is helping to provide clothing and basic necessities to schoolchildren across the district.
dress clothes The Caring Closet, now in its fourth school year, is a clothing pantry serving students in grades kindergarten through sixth in Hamilton schools, said founder Cris Crowthers.
clothing About 500 children in Hamilton have been served in the first three years, Crowthers said. The agency has already received 52 referrals from teachers in the 2013-14 school year.
dress clothes Crowthers said teachers will refer students to the agency who exhibit a need for personal care items or continue wearing the same clothes week after week or wear clothing that is too big or small for them.
cheap clothing Crowthers said each student receives two weeks of clothing, new socks and underwear, toiletries and three books.
t-shirt Crowthers said before launching The Caring Closet, she gathered a group of retired and active teachers, members of parent-teacher organizations and friends to ask if there was even a need in the community.
“It was a resounding answer that yes there was a need, and particularly a need for the working parents who make minimum wage who are trying to raise three or four children on minimum wage,â€**** Crowthers said.
The agency is in need of donations of gently-used or new clothing and shoes, new packs of toiletries such as shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste, new packs of underwear and socks, and children’s books. Donations can be dropped off directly at The Caring Closet, located above Bargain Bungalow at 6 S. â€کD’ St.
