But the Browns did nothing Sunday to alleviate the worries that existed before the game. They entered the locker room at halftime with momentum and a lead and played pathetic football in the second half.Neither coach nor quarterback nor rain nor dark of night can change the fact that this is simply not a very good team.Winning friends: Yes, Favre's late arrival to Minnesota's training camp was controversial. Winning Game 1, though, has teammates appreciating Favre's impact. Writes Albert Breer for SportingNews:Here's where the Vikings say Brett Favre showed up:With 8:38 left in the third quarter, the offense started a possession after scoring a touchdown on its first secondhalf drive, then watching the defense force a Cleveland threeandout. The score was 1713 Minnesota, after the Vikings trailed by three at the half, and Favre sensed the game could be won."I saw a whole different Brett," said receiver Sidney Rice. "I was exhausted in the huddle. It was a long drive. But I saw a whole different Brett. A great motivator."Give 'em time: Don Banks writes some "snap judgments" for his "Inside the NFL" on Sports Illustrated's SI, including:We were reminded once again that it really doesn't matter who starts for Cleveland at quarterback. Maybe that's the real reason Eric Mangini wouldn't announce his QB last week. Cleveland did manage to post an offensive touchdown for the first time since Week 11 of last season, but it was just a garbagetime score that came with 28 seconds remaining in the blowout loss to Minnesota.

"The Fish That Got Eaten By Pittsburgh," was somehow left out of the voting MovieTickets" target="_blank">MovieTickets conducted a poll asking which NFL player made the best big-screen cameo. The results: 1. Brett Favre, "There's Something About Mary" 2. Dan Marino, "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" 3. Terry Bradshaw, "Cannonball Run" 4. Lawrence Taylor, "The Waterboy" 5. Tom Brady, "Stuck on You" Favre won with 29 percent, after which he no doubt thanked himself for a great performance. YOU SAID IT John Kuntz/The Plain DealerHis NFL career may have fallen flat, but there must be other career opportunities for Shaun Smith. At least, Bud Shaw thinks so."Bud: "Shaun Smith was traded by the Browns, cut by the Lions and suspended by the NFL for steroids. Do you see the WWE in his future?" -- Angelo Yes. Especially since a penalty lap in the WWE is much shorter than it is in football. "Bud: "I say the Indians need to follow the Browns' innovative approach by hiring a new manager in the off-season and letting him select the club's new GM. We don't believe Randy Lerner hired George Kokinis, do we?" -- Tim Yes we do. But sources not at all close to the team say he thought he was hiring George Costanza based on his years working for George Steinbrenner in the Yankees organization. "Bud: "Since Shin-Soo Choo and his wife recently gave birth to their child and they delayed choosing a name, does that mean that Mrs. Choo gave birth to the player to be named later?" -- Frank. If DNA has anything to say about it. You Said It winners receive a t-shirt form the Mental Floss collection. Tee this man up.

It helps that Mangini and Kokinis have a relationship dating back to the Browns in the early 1990s

It was to his left shoulder, while Hafner was on the right. But in both cases, it was the lead arm used to swing the bat. Quentin also had reconstructive surgery on his right elbow in 2003. His shoulder was called a partial tear of the left labrum. He tried to play with it in 2007, and was terrible for Arizona (.214, 5 HR, 31 RBI in 229 ABs). Quentin had shoulder surgery in October 2007. The Indians had serious trade talks with Arizona for Quentin, with Cliff Lee going to the Diamondbacks. Other players were involved. The Tribe decided to stick with Lee because of worries about the rotation. Quentin was traded to the White Sox, where he had a monster season (.288, 36 HR, 100 RBI, .965 OPS) before breaking his right wrist in early September. About the Browns ... Tracy Boulian/The Plain DealerThe Browns' reluctance to share much information about their revamped front office may not be playing well with a fan base that is dealing with frustration over the object of their devotion coupled with the failing economy. Terry Pluto wonders if the franchise is taking its audience for granted.Wonder when the Browns will get the message that the fans -- their fans -- are begging for news -- any news -- about the team. I have received emails from fans wanting to know what kind of offense new coach Eric Mangini and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll would like to run. I have no clue. But how about making Daboll and new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan available to the media -- not just to keep the media happy, but to actually speak to the fans. Maybe the Browns haven't noticed, or maybe they don't care, but they really need to give their fan base a reason to believe. These people are desperate to talk some football, and there are enough football men in place to do that. The excuse that these guys are on a new job and they are too busy to take an hour each week to speak to the fans through the media is insulting. The Browns could make Daboll available one week, Ryan the next, Mangini a third. Take a few questions, let people see their picture in the paper and on TV.
