I’ve been in the business since 1984 and I’ve been bowled over by what the manufacturers have available now.â€**** Andrick can also attest to the popularity of the lighter-weight motor coaches and other new RVs — especially the Roadtrek, a Class B RV. Dick Gore’s St. Augustine location is the state’s top seller of Roadtrek. “It looks like a conversion van, but it’s a real RV and they’re extremely popular,â€**** Andrick said. “With a Roadtrek, the owner doesn’t have to tow another vehicle to get around because it already fits into any standard parking space. “Also, for those who have neighborhood restrictions, you can easily park them in the driveway and because of their size they don’t require off-site storage, either,’’ Andrick said. In 1990, Roadtrek became the best-selling North American Class B motor home and now has more than 100 dealers nationally. Dependent on the model, Roadtreks can sleep from two to five people, seat up to seven passengers and all are equipped with a full stove, refrigerator and wet bathroom. But it’s been the overall response of RV manufacturers to the recession, building more affordable and innovative RVs from the larger Class A’s on down, along with increased consumer confidence that has brought stability back to the RV industry. Shipments for all of 2013 are projected to be 309,800 units, which is the first time shipments have been more than 300,000 since 2007. According to the most recent research from the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), America’s wholesale RV shipments rose 12.8 percent in the first six months of 2013 and are expected to average at more than 8 percent over 2012 shipments by the end of this year. That’s why dealers involved in the upcoming St. Johns County Fall RV show have their hopes up for good attendance at the new event. “I think it’s good that we’re giving people throughout the region a second showing and getting folks who may not have taken a peek at these RVs a chance to see them and also find out they’re financially able to afford them,â€**** said Sean Robb, general manager of Camping World of Jacksonville. “We’ve got payments as low as $100 a month, so it’s not just the big vehicles. When many people think about RVs, they typically think of the big motorized ones. We sell way more RVs in the range of $25,000-or-less than in the $200,000-plus range.â€**** Robb adds that the RV shows also offer visitors a wider range of products to review. “The shows give people the opportunity to see many different brands,â€**** he said. “There are authorized RV dealers in different regions, so people who live in St. Johns or surrounding counties may never see a Winnebago, a Columbus or a Kodiak. This show will offer them a way to see all the different models regardless of where they live.â€**** Like many RV dealers, Robb likes to introduce new people to the RV lifestyle – and the many levels that are available for families to get involved. “You see many people who normally wouldn’t go into an RV dealership, so the RV shows are really just another way of getting families out there to find out that it’s a better, more reasonable way to travel,â€**** he said.
