Freenet هو برنامج يسمح لك بمشاركة الملفات والتصفح والنشر كمجهول الهوية (المواقع الالكترونية المتاحة فقط من خلال Freenet) والتحدث على الشبكات الاجتماعية دون الخوف من الرقابة.
هذا البرنامج لامركزي مما يجعله اقل عرضة للهجمات ، وعندما تستخدمه في وضع "darknet" ، (بمعني ان المستخدم يكون على اتصال بالاصدقاء التى تم تحديدهم مسبقا)، انه من الصعب جدا كشفها.
الاتصالات عن طريق Freenet تكون مشفرة ويتم تحويلها من خلال وحدات اخرى لتجعل من الصعب تحديد من الذي يطلب هذه المعلومات وما هو مضمونها.
