Description:
Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drug (NSAID) belonging to the arylpropionic acid
group. Ketoprofen inhibits the biosynthesis of PGE2 and PGF2α.
Indications:
For alleviation of pain, colic, inflammation, pyrexia, oedema and endotoxemia.
Contraindications:
Do not administer to animals suffering from severe cardiac, hepatic or renal impairment, to
dehydrated, hypovolemic or hypotensive animals, animals with gastrointestinal ulceration or
bleeding, animals suffering from blood dyscrasias, or to animals known to be hypersensitive to
ketoprofen
Dosage and administration:
Horses: 1 ml per 45 kg once daily by intravenous injection (IV) for up to 5 days. In cases of colic
dose may be repeated after 2 to 12 hours, based on clinical signs. Laminitic animals: 1 ml per 27
kg IV once daily. Donkeys: 1 ml per 45 kg twice daily IV for up to 5 days.
Cattle, sheep and goats: 1 ml per 33 kg once daily IV or by deep intramuscular injection (IM) for
up to 5 days.
Swine: 1 ml per 33 kg once daily IM for up to 5 days.
Dogs and cats: dilute 1 ml of Dufaprofen 10% inj in 9 ml of sterile water for injections and dose 0.1
to 0.2 ml of this dilution per 1 kg IV, IM or by subcutaneous injection (SC) once daily for up to 3
days.
Side effects:
Due to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, certain individuals may experience gastric or renal
intolerance.
Interactions:
Do not combine with other NSAIDs, glucocorticosteroids, nephrotoxic or hepatotoxic drugs.
Withdrawal times:
Meat and offal: IV route 1 day, IM route 4 days. Milk: 0 days.
Storage conditions:
Store dark and below 25°C. Do not freeze.
